When looking over the Adobe Developer Derby on the labs site I had noticed some date differences.
On April 22, 2006 my search was this:
This page says “Submit your application by 11:59 p.m., Pacific Time, May 31, 2006.”
http://labs.macromedia.com/showcase/special/flexderby/
This page says “Entries must be received by May 1, 2006.”
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=flexderby_submission
I sent an email to “developerderby@adobe.com” and received an email stating that the derby has been extended to May 31, 2006. So I went to labs.adobe.com to go double check and the site just redirects me to a Flex 2 Beta interest request page on the macromedia.com site. Hopefully the extension will be announced soon, have fun with the derbying…
Hopefully this is a good sign and things are getting moved around.

Flash Player 8.5 will be move to version 9, mostly likely because of all the major changes it entails. New VM new AS version etc…
The other interesting thing is the Flash authoring tool buzz. The next generation Flash authoring tool is code-named “Blaze”. Here is a snippet from the macromedia dev center.
However, we will be releasing an alpha version of Blaze in the spring of 2006 that will include ActionScript 3.0 support. This will be a pre-release alpha version (not an update to Flash 8), and will be available to anyone who has purchased Flash Professional 8 and or Macromedia Studio 8.
Along with the quote from Mike Chambers, macromedia.com, back in October 2005 we have the comments over on flashmagazine.com. Here is the link on flashmagazine.com

First one is Jumpcut.com, I have a similiar idea to what Jumpcut.com is doing. I have to give lots of credit for a very nice implementation.
The next is Jesse Warden’s captivate movie of a example of using mProjector and Flex 2 Flex 1.5 as a desktop application.

I have created an example showcasing Flex2 Beta2, Cairngorm2 and AMFPHP. It uses a custom RemoteObjectAMF0 component I created. The custom component allows access to AMF0 format services. The access tries to mimic a subset of what you can do with the Flex 1.5 RemoteObject. It does not support all the features of Flex 1.5 RemoteObject and is first draft code, but it can work nicely in the context of Cairngorm’s Service.mxml (ServiceLocater) code structure.
The example code is currently in the context of the Cairngorm Login example that is found in the Cairngorm 2 download.
Please remember that AMF3 is the newer AS3/Flex2 format and therefore the longevity of the custom RemoteObjectAMF0 is unknown. A few of us are hoping to see a AMF0 supported RemoteObject to be part of the Flex2. But in the end it does not matter once Flex2 is released and AMF3 gets embraced by a wider adapter/connector base.
You can find the example (as well as another example I created) located here:

The new Flash Player for Mobile 5 and Pocket PC can be found here Link to Flash Player 7 PocketPC.
I have tried out the download and it installed fine on my Treo 700w. So far with my limited testing I see my flex application trying to initialize and load when it bonks out and gives me an out of memory error.
I just tested FLV’s they play but the devices CPU speed will make a big difference if it works or not. It was choppy probably from CPU performance issues, but the FLV’s played. (700w I think is about 312Mhz XScale)
I tested a very basic Flex application, and everything worked just fine. Device specifications will affect the abilities of the application.
My phone is constantly crashing since I have installed Flash Player 7 for Pocket PC, might need some work.
