Flex Builder 2 and CFEclipse

If you have not tried already, it is possible to have CFEclipse installed into the standalone version of Flex Builder 2.

Start by installing the latest standalone Flex Builder 2, which is based on Eclipse 3.1.2 as of now. Continue by firing up Flex Builder 2 and follow the instructions in the CFEclipse link above or read the quote below.

Installing the Stable Build

The best way to get CFEclipse is to use the built-in installation and update management tools that come with Eclipse. Here’s how:

1. Select the “Help->Software Updates->Find and install” menu option
2. On the screen that is displayed, select ‘Search for new features to install’ and click the ‘Next’ button
3. Now click the ‘New Remote Site’ button
4. Enter a name for the update site, for example “CFEclipse”. In the URL box, enter http://www.cfeclipse.org/update and click the OK button
5. You should now have a ‘CFEclipse’ node in the ‘Sites to include in search’ box. Expand the CFEclipse node and you will see two child nodes: ‘Stable CFEclipse’ and ‘Bleeding Edge CFEclipse’
6. Tick the ‘Stable CFEclipse’ box and click ‘Next’
7. Eclipse will contact the CFEclipse site and retrieve the list of available plugins. Tick the plugin with the highest version number and click ‘Next’
8. The next instructions are self-explanatory, agree to the license, install the software and restart Eclipse
9. Once Eclipse has restarted CFEclipse should have been successfully installed

    Well, great both products. But rightly executed Flex Builder 2 is based on stable long running 3.1.x version.

    Also rightly executed the beta of CFEclipse is based on eclipse 3.2. (I am sure Flexbuilder will have a minor release shortly to come up to speed. But we want to see it get to market first… upgrade later.)

    I have seen the question present to adobe about Eclipse 3.2 and Flex Builder. There was no definete answer by sides they will look into once both have made their releases. Lots of things going on in the background, it all should be good.

    It goes through the motions of a successfull install but don’t try using it it won’t work.
