Experience while Posting from MAX

Well I have been trying to post from my mobile phone while at MAX while the events are happening. Clearly looking over my blog tonight it didn’t really work very well, multiple posts all over the place. Sorry about the mass posting of late from my blog.

WDDJ Article on Video Conference with Flex and FMS

At MAX you can pick up your copy of the lastest Web Developer’s and Designer’s Journal. The front page sports a picture of a web cam and the article title “Video Conference with Flex and FMS”. The crazy thing is I wrote the article. This is my first published article in the journal and I am pretty excited about it. If you are at MAX pick up a copy of the journal and let me know what you think.

Jeff Tapper - Flex 2 Training: from the source

I was talking with Jeff last night at dinner. I found out his book was release and was at MAX. So I thought I would go and check out the book at the MAX store. I got there about mid day today and it was sold out, yeah sold out in the first half day of MAX. I think people are hurting for Flex 2 material. well I bought my copy and it will be sent to me in a copy of days.

Ely’s Session on Flex demonstrates how to build a iPod Cover animation component.

Elly went throguh in detail how to create components in his “Flex Under the Hood: A Tour through the Flex Architecture”. The sample he created in this session is a component that mimics iPod’s Cover feature just recently released. He will post the code on his blog in thefuture… another sweet moment from MAX.

Keynote Apollo Examples

I have been interested in the Apollo project since was announced. Today at the keynote session I saw for the first time what they mean when they SWF, HTML, DHTML and PDF will worknciely togather. One example they showed demonstrated drag and drop events between Flex and Google maps (DHTML) mini-app all wrapped in Apollo. Apollo is bigger and quite different then my original opinion of comparing it with Zinc by mdm.

Blue Man Group starts out MAX

Blue man group start the keynote session out. It was a great little show. Kevin talked about MAX being the largest MAX to date. He also mention they will show how the Adobe and Macromedia software is coming together. Over 300 ppl from Adobe are at MAX. He showed the PDF kiosks by demonstrating a joke session schedule of Ben Forta. The joke session showed Ben taking a ColdFusion for dummies class and getting a manicure.

Adobe’s COO, Shantanu Narayen, came on next and talk about the marriage of Adobe and Macromedia. They showed a video of ppls reaction of the marriage. The video was fun and showed an overwhelming good reaction. He also mentioned the number one Macromedia employee reaction of the marriage was that Adobe had free drinks and candy…

He then talked about a new product called Digital editions http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/digitaleditions, which completely built on flex. He bought a humorous story about Ben Forta recently racking up 3,000,000 frequent flyer miles. Then when Ben took a two week vacation he received a letter from Northwest airlines seeing if he was ok, because of time off and wasn’t flying.

Other tidbits..

Flash lite on over 100 million devices

http://Sanjosesemaphore.org is on top of Adobe’s office building. Go and try and solve it.

Engagement is big, engaging the users, cliets, and suppliers.

Flash player will reach 80 percent in 6-9 months.

Showed a particle fire ball Flash animation 20x faster in AS3 over AS2.

Flash video adoption is 800x more then Flash video 7.

Greg Rewis showed HTML workflow. And Mike Downey and Steve are showing dynamic media workflow. More coming later….

They just announced a Audio product for non-audio people… it will be on labs this week.

Sho is now showing Flex workflow, he is starting off by taking an illustrator file and using it to sking the look and feel of a Flex app. He set up the app layout in Flex Builder in 30 secs. He went back into Illustrator and outputed the file as a SWF. Now back in Flex he uses the generated SWF from Illustrator as the themes for Flex CSS definition. This is Sweet!!!

Adobe Flex to complement/support other Adobe Enterprise products

Of course it makes sense to use Flex in plenty of Enterprise solutions, especially when complementing other Adobe products like LiveCycle or PDF related offerings. For example we just heard of Kodak creating a document workflow application using Adobe PDF Print Engine and Flex. Well, recently Steven Webster just wrote an overview of the benefits of Adobe LiveCycle and Flex solutions. Its well worth the read.
